Federal Reserve, who runs it?

JRE logo

Well, man, the Federal Reserve, it's kind of a complex beast, but it's not run by any shadowy figure or secret group, contrary to some conspiracy theories out there. The Federal Reserve is overseen by a seven-member Board of Governors based in Washington, D.C, who are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. They serve staggered 14-year terms. Then you've got the Federal Open Market Committee, which handles monetary policy, and that includes some of the big dogs from regional Federal Reserve Banks, along with the Board of Governors. So, in essence, it's a system with a level of internal checks and balances, you know? But who 'runs' it? Depends on what angle you're looking at it from.
