can a girl do jiu jitsu? is it safe for women?
Absolutely, a girl can do jiu jitsu and it's not just safe, it's beneficial. Jiu jitsu is all about leverage and technique over strength and size, which is why it's perfectly suitable for women. Moreover, it provides self-defense skills and confidence that could be very empowering. I've seen women train in jiu jitsu who are highly skilled and technically very proficient. Case in point, I mentioned a friend of mine named Felicia who's a Black Belt from John Jock Machado's. She's super technical and doesn't let her size define her efficiency in the sport.
The key is ensuring you're at the right gym with the right partners who respect your boundaries and aren't just there to overpower others. It's about making sure nobody's trying to hurt you, while maintaining an active martial arts lifestyle. You know, it's interesting, training with women can sometimes be preferred because the force that's coming at you versus the force you're giving to them feels safer.
Remember that jiu jitsu is much more than just a martial art, it’s a way of life. It offers benefits to your physical health, your mental health, and your sense of community. So yes, it’s definitely safe and furthermore, beneficial for women to get into jiu jitsu.
